Scott Novotny, the national comedian most frequently referred to as the new Robin Williams, returns to Gustavus as part of the College’s Homecoming weekend festivities. Novotny, the comedian, actor, writer and teacher brings his “laugh out loud” act filled with family friendly characters, jokes, dancing, props, improvisation and physical comedy to the Björling Recital Hall stage Saturday, September 25 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available online at gustavustickets.com and will be available for sale at the door.

Novotny, a Gustavus graduate who majored in theatre and English, taught for a short time before devoting himself full-time to stand-up comedy. In a career that has now spanned 25 years, he has written for Saturday Night Live, Dudley Rigg’s Brave New Workshop and the daily comic “Strange Brew.” A talented and versatile performer, Scott has headlined at The Comedy Club, Funny Bones, Knuckleheads and Funny Business and acted in numerous stage productions throughout the US. At home in Minnesota, he founded, owned and operated the state’s first full-time comedy club, The Comedy Cabaret.

For Novotny, being a professional stand-up comedian is a dream come true. He loves to make people laugh and feel good and feels that this is especially important today. He sees comedy as the perfect way to get rid of daily tensions and worries, sadness and illness, if only for a short time. He reminds us that the Greek definition for comedy is “life with hope” and admits that he’s “all about that!!”

Don’t miss this special Homecoming event as Comedian Scott Novotny returns to the Björling stage at Gustavus on Saturday, September 25. His “laugh ’til you cry, fun for the family” performance begins at 7:30 with tickets available at gustavustickets.com, the Gustavus Ticket Center at the Student Activities Office or at the door.
