As the Gustavus Adolphus College forensics team continues to assert itself as a top 10 program in the country, the success and popularity of the College’s Summer Speech Institute continues to grow. This year’s speech institute, running from July 24-30, will have a record number of participants (141) from eight different states, making it the second largest camp of its type in the country.

“The institute we offer at Gustavus is a unique opportunity for high school students interested in speech because there are not a ton of speech institutes out there,” Gustavus’s Director of Forensics Kristofer Kracht said. “As our team has started to enjoy a lot of success, high school students have started to recognize that they can get elite forensics training here.”

Kracht will employ 40 staff members at this year’s Institute, including Gustavus alumni, many current Gustavus forensics team members, and numerous high school speech coaches from around the state and the Midwest.

Daily activities at the Summer Speech Institute include vocal warm-ups, skills workshops, individual coaching sessions, Gustie value sessions, performances by current Gustavus forensics team members, and evening social activities.
