The Gustavus Department of Music is pleased to present Swedish violin duo Duo Gelland in concert.  Guest violinists Cecilia and Martin Gelland will perform on Monday, October 8 in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.  The recital is free and open to the public.

Duo Gelland was founded in Sweden in 1994 and is famous for its unique approach to classical violin duos.  The Gellands have dedicated their time to exploring and redefining the violin duo genre, including its artistic and intrapersonal effects on children in classrooms in Strömsund, northern Sweden.  The duo has produced more than a dozen CDs and received numerous international prizes and honors for their prestigious work.

For this program, Duo Gelland will perform seven compositions, beginning with Max Reger’s Allegro Moderato.  The performance will continue with Duo, a selection by Joseph Haydn, and Sonata Op. 4, by Maddalena Laura Sirmen-Lombardini.  Birgitte Alsted’s Zweigeigen will be performed next, followed by Jieleden Vuilie (Livets Jojk), composed by Olof Lindgren.  The program will conclude with Hans-Erik Dahlgren’s work Imagines Memoriae.

The Gustavus Department of Music cordially invites the public to the concert on Monday, October 8.  The concert will present Duo Gelland in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.  There is no cost for admission.
