Hillstrom Museum of Art Opens Hena Uŋkiksuyapi December 17

Hena Uŋkiksuyapi: In Commemoration of the Dakota Mass Execution of 1862 will be on view at the Hillstrom Museum of Art from December 17, 2012 through February 8, 2013, with an opening reception Monday, December 17 from 7 to 9 p.m. Hena Uŋkiksuyapi, Dakota for “we remember those,” features artworks by Dakota and other Native American artists presented in commemoration of the mass execution on December 26, 1862 of 38 Dakota following the end of the Dakota-U.S. War of earlier that year.

Philharmonic to Present Works by Bach, Bartok & Handel Saturday

The Gustavus Department of Music presents the Gustavus Philharmonic Orchestra and Chamber Music Concert, directed by Justin Knoepfel. The concert will take place on Saturday, December 8 at 1:30 p.m. in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall. Admission is free and the concert is open to the public.

Michael Johnson Returns for Gustavus Concert

For forty-five years, Michael Johnson, singer, song-writer, storyteller, and guitarist, has delighted audiences at Gustavus Adolphus College. After a one-year absence, Michael once again returns to Björling Recital Hall on Friday, December 7, at 8:00 p.m. to re-new this 45-year tradition and to celebrate the release of his first cd in over 10 years, Moonlit Deja Vu. This concert on the Gustavus campus is the only performance the national recording artist will present in southern Minnesota this Christmas season

Beth Hauer to Present Senior Euphonium Recital

The Gustavus Department of Music is pleased to present the Senior Euphonium Recital of Beth Hauer on Sunday, December 9 at 3:30 p.m. Beth will be accompanied by pianist Beth Winterfeldt for the recital which will take place in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall. It is free and open to the public.

Winds of Christmas in Chapel

The Gustavus Department of Music invites the public to celebrate the twenty-second annual Winds of Christmas concert with the Gustavus Wind Orchestra and Vasa Wind Orchestra. The concert, directed by Doug Nimmo and Karrin Meffert-Nelson, will take place on Tuesday, December 4 at 10:00 a.m. in Christ Chapel. Admission to the concert is free.

Dance Opens 25th Anniversary Celebration with Shared Space Concert

The Gustavus Department of Theater and Dance will present Shared Space....Connections in Space, a student-directed dance concert on December 6-8 in Gustavus’s Kresge Dance Studio. This concert ushers in the 25th anniversary of the Gustavus Dance Company, and will be led and directed by seniors Katherine Arndt, Hollie Edlund, Rachel Johnson, and Sophia Ogren-Dehn. The show will also consist of ten student-choreographers and approximately forty dancers. As part of the anniversary celebration, audience members are encouraged to donate $3 to a fundraiser geared towards the Gustavus Dance Company. Tickets are available at the SAO desk and online at
