And Herbert, principal flutist in both the Gustavus Wind and Symphony Orchestras, found out that is really does matter who you know. His planned summer of work on campus and practice whenever time allowed very quickly changed, much to his benefit.

Theatre/Dance Professor Terena Wilkens Featured in Theatre Journal

If you’ve been to a performance at Gustavus Adolphus College’s Anderson Theatre, you’ve most likely seen the work of Terena Wilkens, without seeing her face on stage. Wilkens is resident lighting and sound designer, technical director, and adjunct instructor for the College’s Department of Theatre and Dance.

Hillstrom Museum Exhibits 150 Years of Swedish Art

150 Years of Swedish Art: Highlights from the Swedish National Collections in Stockholm (Moderna Museet and Nationalmuseum) will be on view at the Hillstrom Museum of Art at Gustavus Adolphus College from Monday, Sept. 10 through Sunday, Dec. 2. There will be a reception during the College’s Nobel Conference, on Tuesday, Oct. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Gusties and the 2012 Minnesota Fringe Festival

It's late July in Minnesota. The temperatures are climbing and the craziness of the 2012 Minnesota Fringe Festival is just around the corner. As usual, a number of current and former Gustavus students and faculty will be performing and directing at the Festival, which will take place August 2-12 at various locations in Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Gustavus Opens Summer Show Choir Camp

The sounds of singing and dancing in Jussi Björling Recital Hall announce that the 2012 Gustavus Show Choir Summer Music Camp has opened in the Schaefer Fine Arts Center on the Gustavus campus. The camp runs Sunday, July 15 through Saturday, July 21. Its finale performance begins at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday in Björling Recital Hall. Tickets are not required for the performance and it is free and open to the public.

Slam Poetry Camp Featured by Free Press

Gustavus Adolphus College held its first ever Slam Poetry Camp on June 24-30 as individuals traveled from places such as New York, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Omaha to attend the unique summer offering. Musician Ben Johnson-Tesch ’12 Receives Prestigious Med School Sholarship

Tuesday, May 22, 2012, was a pretty big day for recent Gustavus Adolphus College graduate Ben Johnson-Tesch ’12. Not only did the day mark the last day of academics for Johnson-Tesch at Gustavus as he finished up his spring semester finals, but he also received some exciting news from the University of Minnesota Medical School.

Successful Gustavus String Institute Concludes with Finale Concert Friday

The first-ever Gustavus Summer Music String Institute concludes Friday with a public concert in Jussi Björling Recital Hall by the Institute's chamber orchestra of campers and staff directed by Dr. Ruth Lin. The June 22 performance will begin at 7:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Work by Sesquicentennial Sculptor Greg Mueller Selected for Mankato Public Art Tour

Sculptor Greg Mueller, the Gustavus Sesquicentennial Sculptor, is one of 43 national artists whose works have been selected for the 2012 Mankato Public Art Tour. The piece is titled "Portal for the Agrarian" and is created from reclaimed agricultural salvage and cast iron. The 12-foot high sculpture is located just off of Veterans' Bridge on 2nd Street and Main.
