Gustavus to Stage Reading of Dustin Lance Black’s Documentary 8

The Department of Theatre and Dance and the Chaplain’s Office at Gustavus Adolphus College, in collaboration with Queers and Allies, will present a staged reading of Academy Award-winner Dustin Lance Black’s new documentary play 8 on October 14 on the Gustavus campus. Featuring a stellar cast of students, faculty, staff, and alumni of the College, the reading is being presented as part of the Christ Chapel's Jubilee Celebration and will begin at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 14 in Christ Chapel. The performance is directed by Henry MacCarthy, assistant professor of theatre/dance. Tickets are not required and the event is open to the public. Homecoming Concert Features The Bend in the River Big Band

The "Busiest Big Band in the Twin Cities," the Bend in the River Big Band is celebrating its 25th anniversary as it returns to Gustavus Adolphus College, the place where it all began for them, for Homecoming 2012, Saturday, October 13. Saturday's performance by the Bend in River Big Band begins at 7:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. The performance is sponsored by the Office of Alumni Relations and the Gustavus Artist Series. Tickets are available online at gustavustickets.com and will also be available at the door.

Sweden’s Duo Gelland in Concert at Gustavus

The Gustavus Department of Music is pleased to present Swedish violin duo Duo Gelland in concert. Guest violinists Cecilia and Martin Gelland will perform on Monday, October 8 in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. The recital is free and open to the public.

Gustavus Family Weekend Showcase Concert Sunday

As part of the annual Family Weekend festivities, the Department of Music is pleased to include a number of its ensembles in the events on Sunday, October 7. Beginning with Morning Worship in Christ Chapel, through the Jazz Brunch in Evelyn Young Dining Room and back to Christ Chapel for the Family Weekend Showcase Concert, more than 400 student musicians in 9 ensembles will be involved over the course of the day.

“Come Colorful See” Nobel Concert Tuesday

"Come Colorful See," the Nobel Conference 48 Concert, will be presented in Christ Chapel on Tuesday, October 2 at 8:15 p.m. and features the work of pianist Yumiko Oshima-Ryan, images by Dave Ryan, the poetry of Joyce Sutphen and dance choreographed and danced by Jane Chung '13, with choreographic mentorship from Melissa Rolnick. The performance includes music, word, visual images and dance connecting the evening's performance to the theme of Nobel Conference 48, "Our Global Ocean." Admission to the concert is free and open to the public.

Knoepfel Faculty Viola Recital Sunday

The Department of Music at Gustavus is pleased to present a faculty viola recital on Sunday, September 30 at 1:30 p.m. by Justin Knoepfel in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. Knoepfel will be accompanied by pianist Beth Winterfeldt and joined on stage by Minnesota Orchestra violinist Peter McGuire. The performance is free and open to the public.

Renee Guittar ’12 to Perform at Patrick’s Cabaret in Minneapolis

Dancer and Choreographer Renee Guittar '12, will be performing a reprise of the solo "Excess" at Patrick's Cabaret (3010 Minnehaha Avenue South) in Minneapolis on October 5 and 6. Patrick's entire schedule of performances is available on-line at www.patrickscabaret.org.

Minnesota State University Piano Trio Opens Gustavus Music Season

The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College is please to open its 2012-13 performance season with a trio of performers from its sister institution, Minnesota State University in Mankato. The trio of violinist Lydia Miller, 'cellist Joseph Rodgers and pianist David Viscoli will present this public concert in Jussi Björling Recital Hall on the Gustavus campus. This performance begins at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, September 24 and is free and open to the public.

Gustavus Theatre & Dance Celebrates Dance Anniversary Season

The Department of Theatre & Dance at Gustavus Adolphus College is pleased to announce its 2012-2013 performance season. As the college concludes its Sesquicentennial celebration, the Department of Theatre & Dance begins its celebration of 25 years of the Gustavus Dance Company. This silver anniversary includes performances by students, faculty, alumni and guest artists in the spring dance concert as well as a special performance by the Ragamala Dance Company in March 2013. The selections of these works for performance reflect the department's ongoing commitment to teach performance as a vital means of working for social justice and personal transformation.
