Mason and Allen Present Joint Recital Saturday Posted on March 13th, 2013 by

The spring semester student recital schedule begins Saturday, March 16 at 1:30 p.m. with the joint recital of juniors Nick Mason, trumpet and Chris Allen, bass trombone. Nick Mason and Chris Allen will be accompanied by pianist Beth Winterfeldt and joined by the other members of the Christ Chapel Brass for the final selection on the program. The recital is free and open to the public with a reception following in the recital hall lobby for the musicians.

Saturday’s recital opens with Skylines by David Uber, and the Trumpet Concerto by Johann Hummel, followed by David Fetter’s Variations on Palestrina’s Dona Nobis Pacem, the Concerto for Trumpet by Alexander Artunian and the Concerto for Bass Trombone by Eric Ewazen. With assistance from the other three members of the Christ Chapel Brass Quintet, Nick Mason and Chris Allen will conclude the recital with Victor Ewald’s Quintet No. 3.

Nick Mason is a junior honors music education major from White Bear Township, Minnesota. He is actively involved with music on campus, playing in the Gustavus Wind Orchestra, the Gustavus Jazz Lab Band, the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra, the Christ Chapel Brass and the Gustavus Trumpet Ensemble. Nick is a Björling Scholarship recipient and studies trumpet privately with Dr. Steve Wright.

Chris Allen is a junior honors music education major from White Bear Lake, Minnesota. He is a part of the Gustavus Wind Orchestra, Gustavus Symphony Orchestra, Gustavus Jazz Lab Band, Christ Chapel Brass, Vasa Wind Orchestra and the trombone choir. Chris was named a Björling scholar and studies trombone privately with Professor Larry Zimmerman.

Saturday’s student recital featuring performances by Nick Mason, trumpet, Chris Allen, bass trombone, Beth Winterfeldt, piano and the Christ Chapel Brass Quintet begins at 1:30 p.m. in Björling Recital Hall. The recital is free and open to the public.
