Mezzo Soprano Anna Giles in Recital Sunday Posted on May 4th, 2013 by

The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College is pleased to present mezzo-soprano Anna Giles in her senior voice recital. Michael Asmus and Bonnie Jorgensen will accompany Anna for this recital beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 in Bjorling Recital Hall. The recital is free and open to the public

Anna is a senior music major and theater minor from Denver, Colorado. She is the daughter of Mary Giles and graduated from Englewood High School in 2009. Anna is a member of the Gustavus Choir, under the direction of Gregory Aune, and studies voice with Michael Jorgensen

For first half of the recital, Anna will be accompanied by pianist Michael Asmus. She will open with Gioachino Rossini’s Una voce poco fa, followed by  Je te veux, by Erik Satie, and Hugo Wolf’s Verborgenheit. The following song, Antonio Vivaldi’s Laudamus te, will be sung as a duet with Madeline Cacciatore. Anna will then present Così, amor, mi fai languir, a work by Alessandro Stradella, and Antonio Perti’s Scioglie omai le nevi Giacomo. The final selections of the first half are Hiram Titus’ Adieu! Adieu!, followed by Heart, we will forget him, by Aaron Copland.

Pianist Bonnie Jorgensen will join Anna for the second half of the recital. They will open with Claude-Michel Schönberg’s work Last Night of the World and The Song That Goes Like This, by John Du Prez, both performed in a duet with Michael Asmus. The final three songs of the recital are all works by Jason Robert Brown. The first is Still Hurting, followed by See I’m Smiling, and ending the recital with I Can Do Better Than That.

The Gustavus Department of Music is pleased to present Anna Giles’ senior voice recital. It will take place on Sunday, May 5, at 3:30 p.m. in Bjorling Recital Hall. The recital is free and open to the public.
