Rodmyre & Hanson to Present Junior Recital Saturday Posted on May 8th, 2013 by

Juniors Leah Rodmyre, piano and Gabriel Hanson, bass/baritone, will combine talents to present a joint junior recital on Saturday, May 11 at 1:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. Ms. Rodmyre will do double duty as piano soloist and as accompanist for Mr. Hanson. This junior voice and piano recital is free and open to the public.

Leah Rodmyre is a junior psychology major and music minor from Hector, Minnesota. She studies piano with Dr. Yumiko Oshima-Ryan and is a member of the Gustavus Choir under the direction of Dr. Gregory Aune. Leah is a 2010 graduate of Buffalo Lake-Hector High School. Gabriel Hanson is a vocal performance with honors and psychology double major from Stillwater, Minnesota, and a 2010 graduate of Stillwater High School. He is a member of the Gustavus Choir and one of the founding members of G-Sharp. Gabe is a Björling Music Scholar and studies voice with Dr. Michael Jorgensen.

For Saturday’s recital, the duo of Rodmyre and Hanson will open with Henry Purcell’s Arise, Ye Subterranean Winds. Leah will return to the stage to present Mozart’s piano solo Sonata in D Major, K. 284, followed by Gabe’s presentation of the 4-movement Liederkranz für die Bassstimme, Op. 145 by Carl Loewe. Leah will continue with 2 movements of Samuel Barber’s Excursions, Op. 20 and join with Gabe to perform 2 arias from Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte: “O Isis und Osiris” and “In diesen hel’gen Hallen.” Saturday’s junior recital will conclude with Leah’s solo piano performance of Frederic Chopin’s Waltz in F Major, Op. 34, No. 3 and Gabe Hanson’s vocal performance of M. T. Bohannon’s Big Bass Viol (a favorite of this editor).

The joint junior recital by pianist Leah Rodmyre and vocalist Gabriel Hanson will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. This recital is free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception for the recitalist in the recital hall lobby.
