Minnesota Fringe Festival 2013
A number of current and former Gustavus students will be performing, directing, and producing at the 2013 Minnesota Fringe Festival, which will take place August 1-11 at various locations in Minneapolis.
Circe: A Musical Odyssey is written and directed by alumna Maggie Sotos ’09, who returns to the Fringe Festival after her debut show, Troy! The Musical, was the fastest-selling ticket of the 2012 Fringe Festival and enjoyed a highly-attended remount at the Bryant Lake Bowl.
Set amidst a post-World War II backdrop with a dazzling new array of musical stylings and colorful characters, Circe: A Musical Odyssey takes the audience on a journey of friendship, adventure, and getting over the one who got away. On his way home from the Trojan War, the mighty Odysseus woos the mysterious and rogue sorceress Circe (pronounced Sear-see), only to leave her abruptly one year later. Crushed, demoralized and armed with her best friend Hecate, the stubborn Circe sets off to win back her lover, criss-crossing the ancient world in search of her illusive quarry. Her perilous travels bring her eye to eye with the monstrous Cyclops, the enchanting sea nymph Calypso, Odysseus’ sultry wife Penelope, the deadly Sirens of the Sea, as well as a few personal demons of her own.
Other Gustavus alumni on the cast of Circe include Max Beyer ’12, Benjamin Kolis ’12, and Andrea Gullixson ’10. Beyer will play the roles of Gus and Telemachus, Kolis will play the roles of Cyril and Suitor, and Gullixson will play the role of Hecate.
Performances of Circe: A Musical Odyssey will take place at the Illusion Theatre on Hennepin Avenue in downtown Minneapolis on the following dates and times:

Ben Kolis ’12 & Megan Myhre ’11 on the Anderson Stage
Another Fringe performance of interest to the Gustavus community will be Clocked, a comedy produced by Gustavus alumni Renee Guittar ’12, Sarah Jabar ’10, and Benjamin Kolis ’12.
Clocked invites the audience on a journey through a normal day with a wacky twist. Everyday phenomena are tweaked and exaggerated to poke fun at our goofy human tendencies. Set throughout the span of a day, the cast will dive under the surface of daily occurrences to expose the absurd tension between reality and subjective experience.
The bad boss, poor drivers, online dating, interviews, being too tired for sex, insomnia, electronics over human interaction, prescription medications with too many side effects – Clocked covers all of this and more in a handful of vignettes designed to stimulate your senses and make you think about your own interesting habits.
Clocked features an almost all-Gustavus cast including current students Rob Ward ’14 and Connie Boatwright ’14, and alumni Rush Benson ’13, Jane Chung ’13, Megan Myhre ’11, and Julio Zelaya ’12.
