CLOCKED
Each year at the Minnesota Fringe Festival, productions with the highest attendance at each venue are selected as “Audience Picks” and an additional performance is added to its schedule. Clocked, one of this year’s Fringe Festival events produced by Ben Kolis (Theatre Honors ’12), Renee Guittar (Dance Honors ’12) and Sarah Jabar (Dance ’10), earned the audience pick designation at its venue, the Rarig Center Proscenium at the University of Minnesota. Clocked was one of only 16 productions at this year’s Festival to be selected out of the 176 productions on the schedule.
With a wacky twist, Clocked invited the audience on a journey through a normal day. Everyday phenomena were tweaked and exaggerated to poke fun at our goofy human tendencies. Set throughout the span of a day, the cast dove under the surface of daily occurrences to expose the absurd tension between reality and subjective experience.
The bad boss, poor drivers, online dating, interviews, being too tired for sex, insomnia, electronics over human interaction, prescription medications with too many side effects – Clocked covered all of this and more in a handful of vignettes designed to stimulate your senses and make you think about your own interesting habits.
In addition to the work of producers Ben Kolis ’12, Renee Guittar ’12 and Sarah Jabar ’10, Clocked featured an almost all-Gustavus cast including current students Rob Ward ’14 and Connie Boatwright ’14, and alumni Rush Benson ’13, Jane Chung ’13, Megan Myhre ’11, and Julio Zelaya ’12.
