The Gustavus Department of Music will present Gabe Gazzola and Katie Frehner in their junior piano recital on Friday, November 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Bjorling Recital Hall. The joint recital is free and open to the public.
Gabe Gazzola is a junior from Woodbury, Minn., with a major in Psychological Science and minors in Music and Coaching. She is a Bjorling Music scholar studying with Esther Wang. Gabe performs with the Lucia Singers on campus and teaches piano lessons to local children through the Gustavus Piano Lab School.
Katie Frehner is a junior majoring in Communication Studies with minors in Peace Studies and Music. Katie is from Roseville, Minn. She sings with the Choir of Christ Chapel and studies piano with Yumiko Oshima-Ryan. Katie coaches youth with the Gustavus Piano Lab School and receives the Bjorling Music Scholarship.
The recital will begin with a performance by Katie of the first two movements of Edvard Grieg’s “Lyric Pieces, Op. 57.” Gabe will play the first three movements of “Suite for Piano Op. 14,” a piece by Bela Bartok. This will be followed by two presentations from Katie, beginning with “Arabeske in C Major, Op. 18,” by Schumann and the first movement of Claude Debussy’s “Two Arabesques.” Gabe will perform the last two songs of the recital. First will be her rendition of the fourth movement of “Goyesca’s Suite,” a selection from Enrique Granados. The final song of the recital will be Gabe’s performance of Nikolai Kapustin’s “Eight Concert Etudes Op. 40: Pastoral.”
Juniors Gabe Gazzola and Katie Frehner will present their joint piano recital on Friday, November 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Bjorling Recital Hall. All are welcome to the concert.
