Music faculty members Barbara Leibundguth, flute and Yumiko Oshima-Ryan, piano, will present a faculty recital Saturday, March 14 at 1:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. The recital, “In the Wind, Japanese Contemporary Music: Shakuhachi to Progressive Rock,” will be open to the public at no charge. Tickets are not required.
Saturday’s program will include four works by Japanese composers. The program will open with a solo flute performance of Toru Takemitsu’s Itinerant — In Memory of Isamu Noguchi, performed by Barbara Leibundguth. Pianist Yumiko Oshima-Ryan will continue with Six Preludes for Piano by Michio Mamiya, and then be joined by Barbara Leibundguth for Yuko Uebayashi’s Sonate for Flute and Piano. The final work on the recital is Takashi Yoshimatsu’s Digital Bird Suite, Op. 15, for Flute and Piano.
Saturday’s faculty recital, “In the Wind, Japanese Contemporary Music: Shakuhachi to Progressive Rock,” will begin at 1:30 p.m. in Björling Recital Hall. This performance by Barbara Leibundguth and Yumiko Oshima-Ryan will be presented free and open to the public.
