The flute and piano duo of Tim Lane and Namji Kim, members of the music faculty at UW Eau Claire, will present a guest recital in Jussi Björling Recital Hall on Friday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. The recital is sponsored by the Department of Music at Gustavus and will be presented at no charge to the public. Tickets are not required.

Flutist Tim Lane has been on the faculty at Eau Claire since 1989. With degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Illinois, Dr. Lane has played with the Orquestra Sinfonica de Veracruz, Mexico, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Ohio Chamber Orchestra, and has taught at Eastern Illinois University, the Cleveland Institute of Music Preparatory Department, and at the Interlochen Arts Camp. He is currently on a year-long sabbatical and writing an expressive manual for flute players. Pianist Namji Kim is an associate professor of piano at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She graduated from the National Superior Conservatory of Paris with First Prizes in piano, chamber music, and harmony, and later earned her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Juilliard School, and her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Manhattan School of Music. She has served on the music faculties of Graceland University of Iowa and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

For their guest recital at Gustavus, the duo has selected an all-French program. The recital will open with Camille Saint-Saëns’ Odolette, Op. 162, and Maurice Ravel’s Sonate Posthume. It continues with the Morceau de Concours by Gabriel Fauré and the La Merle Noir by Olivier Messiaen. The three-movement Sonatine by Darius Milhaud will conclude the program.

Friday’s guest recital by flutist Tim Lane and pianist Namji Kim will begin at Björling Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. The recital is free and open to the public.
