A busy spring semester of student recitals at Gustavus Adolphus College begins Sunday, March 6, with Laura Johnson’s senior clarinet recital. The 7:30 p.m. recital will be presented under the sponsorship of the Department of Music at Gustavus in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. The performance will be open and free to the public.

Laura Johnson is a native of Roseville, Minnesota and a 2012 graduate of Roseville Area High School. The daughter of Nancy and Ralph Johnson, Laura is a music education major, a member of the Gustavus Wind & Symphony Orchestras, the Chamber Winds Brass Choir and the Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble. Following commencement in May, she will begin her summer as the Dean of Students at the Lutheran Summer Music Camp and will also be teaching and conducting at Roseville’s 5th-8th Grade Summer Band Camp. In the fall she will begin student teaching in the Twin Cities.

For her senior recital, Laura will be accompanied by Beth Winterfeldt on piano. She’ll open the recital with Euday L. Bowman’s 12th Street Rag, and Leonard Bernstein’s Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, followed by Paul Harvey’s Three Etudes on Themes of Gershwin, and Time Pieces for Clarinet and Piano by Robert Muczynski. For the final work of the recital she will conduct 12 Gustavus musicians on the first movement of Antonin Dvorak’s Serenade for Wind Instruments, Op. 44.

Sunday’s senior recital by clarinetist Laura Johnson will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. This recital is open to the public at no charge. A reception will follow in the recital hall lobby.
