As the 2015-16 academic year at Gustavus Adolphus College comes to a close, the Department of Music has one final public performance on the calendar. The Season Finale with the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra will include performances by the 2016 Concerto/Aria Competition winners on Saturday, May 28 at 8:00 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. Conducted by Dr. Ruth Lin, the Finale will feature performances by violinist Kendra Frey, saxophonist Lauren Makey and marimbist Matt Broschard. Admission to this concert is free; tickets are not required.

Saturday’s concert by the Gustavus Symphony will open with Leo Weiner’s Suite on Hungarian Folk Themes. Senior percussionist Matt Broschard from Eden Prairie will follow as the first featured soloist and his performance of the Prism Rhapsody for Marimba and Orchestra by Keiko Abe. Lauren Makey will then join the Symphony to perform movements I & II from Paul Creston’s Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra. The Concerto/Aria Concert will conclude with violinist Kendra Frey on the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra by Dmitri Shostakovich

The 2016 Season Finale concert from the Department of Music at Gustavus will begin at 8:00 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall on Saturday, May 28. This performance will feature the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Ruth Lin, and will include the 2016 Concerto/Aria Competition winners. This final performance of the department’s season is free and open to the public.
