The Gustavus Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Ruth Lin, will present its fall concert in Jussi Björling Recital Hall on Friday, November 4 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will feature Melissa Morey, horn, and includes performances of music by Franz Schubert, W.A. Mozart and Robert Schumann. This performance is open to the public. Tickets are not required.

The symphony will open with Franz Schubert’s Rosamunde: Overture D. 644 before bringing Melissa Morey to the stage to perform the Concerto No. 2 for Horn and Orchestra in Eb Major, K. 471 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. They will conclude with the four-movement Symphony No. 4 in D minor, Op. 120, by Robert Schumann.

Melissa Morey, adjunct professor of music at Gustavus, is  a professional horn player, teacher, and singer, who holds a Master of Music degree in horn performance and pedagogy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She earned a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal music education (with departmental distinction) from St. Olaf College where she was a member of and soloist with the St. Olaf Choir, St. Olaf Band, and St. Olaf Orchestra. In addition to teaching at Gustavus, Melissa runs the Morey Horn Studio, is one- third of the Mélange à Trois horn trio with Cara Wilson – violin, Stephen Self – piano, and teaches at Mt. Olivet School of Music, and Concordia University-St. Paul.

Friday’s fall concert by the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Björling Recital Hall. Admission to this event is free. Tickets are not required.
