Weekend Preview: From Woodwinds to Handbells

A look at what’s going on in the fine arts at Gustavus this weekend!

This weekend starts off with the Gustavus Wind Symphony performing with the Gustavus Chamber Winds and various woodwind ensembles in their spring concert on Saturday, May 11. As a special Mother’s Day treat, the Lucia Singers and Gustavus Philharmonic Orchestra join for their final concert of the year, and the Handbell Ensemble perform Sunday evening.

Gustavus Wind Symphony and Gustavus Chamber Winds Spring Concert

This concert features the Gustavus Wind Symphony along with the Gustavus Chamber Winds and several woodwind ensembles.  The Gustavus Wind Symphony will perform works by Ticheli, Daugherty, and Syler, and will feature the Gustavus Wind Symphony Conducting Fellow Emma Silber ’19, as well as percussionists Jonathan Hickox-Young ’20 and Zoe Raisbeck ’21.

In their final concert of the year, the Lucia Singers and Gustavus Philharmonic Orchestra perform works by Gershwin, Hadyn, and more. The concert will also feature cellist Katelyn Yee ’20 and violinist Emee Jagielski ’21.

Several Gustavus Handbell ensembles, conducted by Dr. Chad Winterfeldt, present their spring concert. The various ensembles will be performing songs ranging from classic hymns to popular Disney tunes.
