The Gustavus Jazz Lab Band and the Adolphus Jazz Ensemble, directed by Steve Wright, present their combined fall concert Saturday, November 20 at 7:30 p.m. Saturday’s performance by the two jazz ensembles will be presented in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. The fall jazz concert at Gustavus is free and open to the public.
The Adolphus Jazz Ensemble and director Steve Wright open the evening’s performance with a set of contemporary jazz compositions by Mike Tomaro, Frank Mantooth, Matt Harris, Jeff Jarvis and Rick Lawn. The Gustavus Jazz Lab Band, also under the direction of Steve Wright, will continue with selections from their semester performances at the Nobel Conference and Family Weekend. Their program includes such well-known works as Johnny Mercer’s Tangerine, Wayne Shorter’s Yes or No, and Dizzy Gillespie’s Salt Peanuts and Manteca, as well as well as the Quincy Jones/Sammy Nestico collaborations Belly Roll and Quintessence.
Saturday’s performances by the Adolphus Jazz Ensemble and the Gustavus Jazz Lab Band are free and open to the public. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Björling Recital Hall.
