As part of the annual Family Weekend festivities, the Department of Music is pleased to include a number of its ensembles in the events on Sunday, October 7. Beginning with Morning Worship in Christ Chapel, through the Jazz Brunch in Evelyn Young Dining Room and back to Christ Chapel for the Family Weekend Showcase Concert, more than 400 student musicians in 9 ensembles will be involved over the course of the day.
Sunday’s schedule begins with Morning Worship in Christ Chapel at 10:00 a.m. The Choir of Christ Chapel, under the direction of Brandon Dean and the Chapel Ringers with director Chad Winterfeldt are scheduled to participate in the worship service. At 11:00 a.m., both Gustavus jazz ensembles, the Gustavus Jazz Lab Band and the Adolphus Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Steve Wright, will be performing for the Family Weekend Jazz Brunch in the Evelyn Young Dining Room. (Payment for the brunch can be made at the cashier.)
The Family Weekend Showcase Concert begins at 2:00 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The Gustavus Choir and conductor Gregory Aune will open the afternoon’s performance, followed by the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra, Ruth Lin, conductor and the Vasa Wind Orchestra under the direction of Karrin Meffert-Nelson. After a brief intermission to adjust the set, the Lucia Singers and conductor Brandon Dean will take the stage. The afternoon’s concert with conclude with a performance by the Gustavus Wind Orchestra, under the direction of Douglas Nimmo. The Family Weekend Showcase Concert is free and open to the public.
