For fifty years, the Choir of Christ Chapel has been at the center of faith exploration and music expression in Christ Chapel on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus. In addition to providing special music and serving to promote the mission of Christ Chapel and the College, the Choir has toured annually throughout the U.S. to connect students and congregations alike with the rich musical heritage of the Lutheran Church. After returning from this spring’s concert tour, the Choir of Christ Chapel, under the direction of Dr. Brandon Dean, will present its Home Concert in Christ Chapel on Wednesday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. The Choir will be accompanied by pianist Bonnie Jorgensen and violinist Taylor Frey. Admission to the concert is free, tickets are not required.

Conductor Brandon Dean, in his second year as director of the 98-voice Choir of Christ Chapel, created a concert of works from the Choir’s repertoire in worship and at Christmas in Christ Chapel over the past year. The program opens with James Frischel’s, I Sing as I Arise Today, Schutz’ Herr, wenn ich nur dich habe, Kevin Siegfried’s arrangement of the Shaker song, Peace, and Fairest Lord Jesus, arranged by Charles Forsberg. In the second part of the concert, the Choir will present Eric Whitacre’s Five Hebrew Love Songs. The program will continue with the Choral Fanfare “Laudate,” composed by Leland Sateren, Jesus Christ the Apple Tree by Elizabeth Poston and Craig Courtney’s Gloria before performing the Keith McCutchen arrangement of Amazing Grace. The Choir’s Home Concert concludes with A. R. Rahman’s Balleilakka and Allen Pote’s The Lord is My Shepherd.
