Spring Concert of Lucia Singers & St. Ansgar’s Chorus Thursday Posted on May 14th, 2013 by

The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College presents the combined Lucia Singers and St. Ansgar’s Chorus in concert on Thursday evening, May 16, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel. Led by Dr. Brandon Dean, the two ensembles will be accompanied by pianists Michael Asmus and Beth Winterfeldt. This concert is free and open to the public.

The program for this combined men’s and women’s chorus performance opens under the theme of “Songs of the Heart” and includes works by Robert Schumann, Ola Gjeilo and Nancy Cobb Hill, followed by an English Folk Song, The Turtle Dove, Vijay Singh’s Finnan Haddie and Music Down in My Soul by Moses Hogan. In the second half of the program titled “In Remembrance,” the ensembles will open with Eliza Gilkyson’s Requiem, followed by At the Break of Day, arranged by Michael Cox, Bound for the Promised Land, an early American hymn arranged by Emily Crocker and Beneath the African Sky, by Paul Caldwell and Sean Ivory. The final set of works on Thursday’s concert will include When I Am Silent by Joan Varner, the traditional spiritual No Time, arranged by Susan Brumfield, and Andrea Ramsey’s There Has to Be a Song.

This performance by the Lucia Singers and the St. Ansgar’s Chorus in Christ Chapel on Thursday, May 16 beginning at 7:30 p.m., is free and open to the public.
