For the spring of 2014, the Gustavus Dance Company will perform Grace, a collaboration of elegantly crafted movement and artistic innovations, which embody the essence of grace. Taking the stage of the Anderson Theater once again, the company will present thought-provoking dances on May 2 and 3at 8:00 p.m. and May 4 at 2:00 p.m. The concert will feature a broad spectrum of choreography created by faculty members Melissa Rolnick, Michele Rusinko, Sarah Hauss and Jill Patterson, guest artists and alumni Philip Flickinger ‘01 and Katy Becker’ 02, and selected student pieces by seniors Johnny Bates and Kelsey Hanstad.

Grace presents a blending of many modern styles, as each choreographer expresses a different emotion and narrative exhibited through the dancers. The concert will feature a reprise of the senior piece Then.Here.Begin. choreographed by faculty Jill Patterson, and Holding On choreographed by senior Johnny Bates, both of which were honorably selected to be performed in the Gala Concert at the American College Dance Festival in Milwaukee. The pieces are emotionally provocative and physically compelling, eliciting the perception of grace.

The presentation will feature a captivating solo, The Rain Is My Home performed and choreographed by faculty Melissa Rolnick, which celebrates a lifetime in dance. Additionally the concert will include an intriguing trio, Jonesing for Grace choreographed by faculty Michele Rusinko and the athletically robust, Rebound by Sarah Hauss.  All of the dances reveal the quintessence of grace.

Melissa Rolnick and Michele Rusinko will serve as co-artistic directors of Grace. Faculty Micah Maatman will serve as production manager. Faculty members Terena Wilkins will design lights and sound, and Larissa McConnell will design costumes. Students Anna Michel ‘15, Kit Baumer ‘15 and Bethany Davidson ’15 will design sound, lighting and costume, respectively.

The Gustavus Dance Company will present Grace, a collaboration of elegantly crafted movement and artistic innovations which embody the essence of grace, May 2 and 3at 8:00 p.m. and May 4 at 2:00 p.m. in Anderson Theatre.
