For more than fifty years, Christ Chapel has been the center for faith exploration, lively intellectual discourse, and vivid music expression on the Gustavus campus. The Choir of Christ Chapel, a 100-voice mixed ensemble, performs fine sacred repertoire selected specifically to complement the various liturgies celebrated on the campus. In addition to singing for Holy Communion and Daily Celebrations, the choir participates in the annual Christmas in Christ Chapel and other major choral events on campus. In 2013, the Choir was invited to perform at the Minnesota Music Educator’s Association Midwinter Clinic. As part of the College’s sesquicentennial celebration in 2012, the Choir of Christ Chapel collaborated with internationally renowned choreographer Stephen Koplowitz to present a site-specific performance.
The Choir of Christ Chapel annually tours with a program of choral repertoire to both promote the mission of the College and to connect students and congregations alike with the rich musical heritage of the Lutheran church. The Choir will return home on Sunday following concerts at Grace Lutheran Church in Mankato on Friday; in Christ Chapel on Saturday for the Gustavus Association of Congregations gathering and later that day at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Apple Valley; and participation in Sunday morning worship services at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Eden Prairie. The entire tour itinerary can be found at: 2014 Choir of Christ Chapel Concert Tour.
