The Department of Music at Gustavus is pleased to present the junior recital by Kacie Foster, piano and Eric Pothen, baritone, Sunday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. This joint recital by Foster and Pothen will be performed in Jussi Björling Recital Hall with accompanist Bonnie Jorgensen. The recital is open to the public. Tickets are not required.
Pianist Kacie Foster, a music and communications studies double major from Chanhassen, Minn., will open the recital with 2 movements from Claude Debussy’s Préludes Book 1. Vocalist Eric Pothen, a music education major from Mounds View, will then make his first appearance on the stage with pianist Bonnie Jorgensen to perform 4 movements from the song cycle Winterreise, by Franz Schubert.
The recital will continue with 2 works for piano by Kacie Foster: “Etude Op. 10, No. 3” by Frederic Chopin and “Ainola Lyrical Ballads, Op. 95” by Takashi Yoshimatsu. Foster’s set will be followed by Pothen’s performances of “The Way You Look Tonight” by Jerome Kern, “You Make Me Feel So Young” by Josef Myrow, and Jack Johnson’s “Better Together,” for which he will be assisted by mezzo-soprano and guitarist Jessie Erickson. One final solo piano work by Kacie Foster of Maurice Ravel’s “Jeux d’Eau” will lead to the conclusion of the recital with both Foster and Pothen on stage to perform Stefano Donaudy’s “Or che le rédole” and “Spirate pur, spirate…”
Sunday’s busy day of student recitals at Gustavus will conclude with this joint junior recital by Kacie Foster, piano and Eric Pothen, baritone, at 7:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. This performance is open to the public at no charge.
