The Hillstrom Museum of Art has on view through its window a small selection of works from its permanent collection. Included are three mountainous landscapes, one of which is an oil painting recently donated by David and Annette Olson, by Swedish-American artist Dewey Albinson (1898-1971), dating from around 1932. Two additional works on display were donated by Reverend Richard L. Hillstrom, both from 1922 and both by prominent American artists who were active in the first half of the twentieth century and who were close friends: George Bellows (1882-1925), Sunset, Shady Valley, and Eugene Speicher (1883-1962), Autumn, Wookstock, New York; these works were painted in the Catskill Mountains around Wookstock, where the two artists each summered for several years and where they were involved with the renowned artist colony there.
These paintings will remain on display through approximately mid July. The Museum, which is closed summers, will reopen on September 22, 2014, with two concurrent exhibitions (that will be on view through November 9, 2014), Pull Left: Emerging Contemporary Artists in China, and FOCUS IN/ON: Everett Shinn’s Magician with Shears.
