Weekend Arts Preview: The Final Countdown

It’s true, Christmas in Christ Chapel is over and gone, but the final weekend of the semester on the hill will be anything but quiet. Here is our weekend concert rundown.

It’s true, Christmas in Christ Chapel is over and gone, but the final weekend of the semester on the hill will be anything but quiet. Between the nearly sold-out theatre/dance productions and several concerts over the next few days, there is no shortage of events to attend. Gustavus Philharmonic Orchestra
7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, December 6
Björling Recital Hall

The Gustavus Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Justin Knoepfel, performs Ralph Vaughan William’s Rhosymedre, Béla Bartók’s Rumanian Folk Dances for String Orchestra, Gustav Holst’s St. Paul Suite for String Orchestra. They will be joined by special guests, the Gustavus Cello Choir, to open the program.

Jingle Jam Jazz
8:30 p.m.

Courtyard Café

This annual event features the jazz combos and vocal jazz for an evening of festive holiday music. Alumni from the jazz program are welcomed back to campus to jam with current students, and the entire community is invited to sit back, relax, and enjoy a break during a busy time of year.

Come out and support Gustavus’ newest student-run a capella ensemble, Gustavus Women’s A Capella, on its first performance in Björling Recital Hall.

Woodwind Chamber Ensembles Fall Concert

The Flute Choir, Clarinet Ensemble, Saxstreet Boiz, Bassoons Inc., Four-Fifths Woodwind Quintet, and the Gustavus Chamber Winds join forces for an afternoon of music. The program features works by Haydn, Bizet and Strauss among many other more contemporary favorites.

The Gustavus Percussion Ensemble presents its fall concert featuring works by Dmitry Kabalevsky, Elliot Cole, and Takayoshi Yoshioka.
