There are several great fine arts events on campus at Gustavus Adolphus College this weekend. All performances are free and open to the public and we hope you’ll join us for one or all of them! Here’s a quick preview:
Gustavus Wind Symphony and Gustavus Chamber Winds

Saturday, March 10
Björling Recital Hall
The Gustavus Wind Symphony, under the direction of conductor Heidi Johanna Miller, performs works including”Be Thou My Vision” by Travis Cross and “Satiric Dances” by Norman Dello Joio. The ensemble will be joined by the Gustavus Chamber Winds, under the direction of Karrin Meffert-Nelson, performing “Sinfonietta” by Joachim Raff.

Saturday, March 10
Björling Recital Hall
This concert, sponsored in part by the Johnson Funds, is part of the Gustavus Adolphus College Music Department’s Colloquium Series. The performance features Gustavus faculty member and tenor David Kosizek, and visiting soprano Samantha Stinson of St. Lawrence University. Assistant Professor of English, Rob Kendrick, will provide narration for the event. The performance focuses on musical compositions and works influenced by the literary work of Shakespeare. There will be a pre-concert lecture beginning at 6:30 p.m. delving into further detail about the relationship between music and Shakespeare’s work over the years.

Björling Recital Hall
Adjunct Instructor of Flute Barbara Leibundguth presents “Flute, Old and New” as part of the Gustavus Adolphus College Music Department’s Colloquium Series. From “Les Folies d’Espagne” by Marin Marias to “Zoom Tube” by Ian Clarke, this performance will display the full range of flute performance.

Chad Winterfeldt, Faculty Organ Recital

Christ Chapel
Adjunct Assistant Professor of Organ Chad Winterfeldt presents a recital of works written by female composers. This event is part of the Gustavus Adolphus College Music Department’s Colloquium Series. The performance starts with a work from the 1800’s written by Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel and moves through time including a set of three chorales of Martin Luther featuring “Variations on Erhalt Uns, Herr” by recent graduate Katherine Bergman ’07.
