Winds and Symphony Orchestras Combine for Spring Concert

The Vasa Wind Orchestra and the Gustavus Philharmonic Orchestra will present a combined concert on Friday, May 12, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Gustavus Adolphus College. This performance, under the direction of Douglas Nimmo and Warren Friesen, is free and open to the public and will be presented in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall.

The Vasa Wind Orchestra and the Gustavus Philharmonic Orchestra will present a combined concert on Friday, May 12, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Gustavus Adolphus College. This performance, under the direction of Douglas Nimmo and Warren Friesen, is free and open to the public and will be presented in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall.

The Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Warren Friesen will open the concert with Peter Warlock’s Capriol Suite, based on the dance tunes from Arbeau’s Orchesographie. They will continue with the three-movement Salzburger Sinfonie, K. 138 by W. A. Mozart and conclude their half of the program with the Festliche Musik (Intrada con Passamezzo) by Hermann Schroeder.

Conductor Douglas Nimmo and the Vasa Wind Orchestra will take the stage following a short intermission to present works by John Wasson, Alan Menken and Bill Locklear. Their program includes the Chorale and Shaker Dance by John Zdechlik, Dramatic Prelude by Claude Smith and will end the program with the Pentland Hills by Major J. H. Howe.

This performance is free and open to the public.
