Sweden’s Thomas Schoenberg and St. Paul Chris Kachian Guest Artists at Gustavus

Swedish ‘cellist Thomas Schoenberg and St. Paul classical guitarist Chris Kachian will present a guest recital of contemporary works for guitar and ‘cello at Gustavus Adolphus College on Sunday, April 6. This performance in Jussi Björling Recital Hall begins at 3:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Swedish ‘cellist Thomas Schoenberg and St. Paul classical guitarist Chris Kachian will present a guest recital of contemporary works for guitar and ‘cello at Gustavus Adolphus College on Sunday, April 6. This performance in Jussi Björling Recital Hall begins at 3:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Thomas Schoenberg has performed over 300 solo, chamber and concerto performances in Europe, Asia and the United States. As a founding member of Ars Nova Trio, he presented over 200 performances in Asia and Europe from 1990 through 2000. In addition to his performance career, Schoenberg serves as the dean of the Lidingo School of Music in Stockholm. Christopher Kachian is professor of music at the University of St. Thomas where he directs the guitar studies area. He is also a busy performer and writer and has been heard on Minnesota and National Public Radio and American Public Media.

For this recital, the duo has selected three contemporary works. They will open with Three Moons by David Leisner, followed by Jan Friedlin’s Sonata of The Wanderings. They conclude Sunday’s recital with a performance of Gilbert Biberian’s Eight Bagatelles.

Sunday’s guest recital by Thomas Schoenberg and Christopher Kachian begins at 3:00 p.m. in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall. It is free and open to the public.
