Continuing with the theme set at Christmas in Christ Chapel in December, the Choir of Christ Chapel at Gustavus returns from its annual spring concert tour to present its home concert, Music and Poetry: The Ring of Words, Friday, April 25 in Christ Chapel. With Conductor Patricia Kazarow and Organist Chad Winterfeldt, the Choir will present the concert beginning at 7:30 p.m.
With the theme, Music and Poetry: the Ring of Words, a poem by Robert Louis Stevenson, the Choir will present music and worship, both spoken and sung, to demonstrate the presence of God, the Word made flesh, Jesus the Christ, in and among us.
Friday’s concert opens with the Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Bright is the Ring of Words. Among the congregational hymns and other anthems, the Choir will present two works by John Rutter, What Sweeter Music and God Be in My Head, Jean Berger’s Glory Be To God, Eric Whitacre’s Water Night and Moses Hogan’s Music Down in My Soul. Following Randall Stroope’s Lamentations of Jeremiah, Christ Chapel Associate Organist Chad Winterfeldt will present the organ solo Drop, Drop Slow Tears by Vincent Persichetti.
