Folk Duo Neal and Leandra Return for Homecoming Concert at Gustavus

Minneapolis folk duo and Gustavus alumni Neal and Leandra return for a special Homecoming Weekend concert at the place where they met 25 years ago, Gustavus Adolphus College. With six successful cds on the market and concert tours taking them from coast to coast, the Red House Recording artists will appear in concert on Saturday, October 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the College's Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall. Tickets for the performance are available at the Gustavus Ticket Center (507-933-7590) or at the door.

‘Cellist Isomura and Pianist Oshima-Ryan Present Recital at Gustavus

Sachiya Isomura, 'cellist with the Minnesota Orchestra and Yumiko Oshima-Ryan, pianist at Gustavus Adolphus College, will present a recital of works by Boccherini, Chopin, Mayuzumi and Brahms in a joint guest/faculty appearance on Saturday, September 23. This performance begins at 1:30 pm. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall on the Gustavus campus. It is free and open to the public.

Pianist R. Kent Cook Leads Off Gustavus Guest Artist Season

The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College welcomes Pianist R. Kent Cook as its first guest artist of the new performance season. Cook will perform the Preludes for Piano by Claude Debussy on Friday, September 15, 2006, beginning at 7:30 p.m. This guest artist recital will be presented in Jussi Björling Recital Hall on the Gustavus campus. Dr. Cook's performance is sponsored by the Department of Music and is free and open to the public.

Minnesota Valley Sommarfest’s Final Season Concludes with Stravinsky’s Soldier’s Tale

Minnesota Valley Sommarfest's final season concludes Thursday, July 27, with a performance of Igor Stravinsky's L'Histoire du Soldat or "The Soldier's Tale." Thursday's concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall on the Gustavus campus with Douglas Nimmo conducting the ensemble which includes Michael Jorgensen as the narrator, along with a number of area musicians, dancers and actors.

Sommarfest Continues with Return of Artaria String Quartet

Minnesota Valley Sommarfest's 17th and final season continues this week with the return of the Artaria String Quartet to the Sommarfest stage. Joined by Mankato pianist David Viscoli, the quartet will perform works by Mendelssohn, Janacek and Robert Schumann at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, July 20 in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall on the Gustavus campus. Tickets for Thursday's concert will be available at the door.

Minnesota Valley Sommarfest’s Final Season Continues with Sommarfest Trio Performance

Minnesota Valley Sommarfest's final season continues this Thursday, July 13, with a performance at 7:30 p.m. by the Minnesota Valley Trio in Jussi Björling Recital Hall on the Gustavus campus. The Trio, which has performed in every one of the 17 seasons of Minnesota Valley Sommarfest, will welcome violinist Nancy Oliveros of the Artaria String Quartet to this week's performance.

Winds and Symphony Orchestras Combine for Spring Concert

The Vasa Wind Orchestra and the Gustavus Philharmonic Orchestra will present a combined concert on Friday, May 12, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Gustavus Adolphus College. This performance, under the direction of Douglas Nimmo and Warren Friesen, is free and open to the public and will be presented in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall.

New Music Concert Scheduled at Gustavus

The Gustavus Adolphus College Department of Music will introduce a concert of new music in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall on Saturday, May 13, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Under the direction of Michele Gillman and Scott Kallestad, student ensembles will present new compositions, including two by Gillman. This performance is free and open to the public.

Weekend Recitals Close Performance Season at Gustavus

The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College presents three student recitals this weekend in Bjorling Recital Hall as another recital season comes to a close. Percussionist Todd Swingle opens the weekend with his senior recital at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, May 13. Baritone Greg Dokken and soprano Jamie Hultgren combine efforts at 7:30 p.m. Aaron Hanson, saxophone, presents his senior recital in the recital hall beginning at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, May 14. All three recitals are open to the public.

Wind, Percussion and Choral Concerts Fill Weekend at Gustavus

A series of ensemble concerts are scheduled for the weekend at Gustavus Adolphus College. The Gustavus Wind Orchestra opens the schedule on Saturday, May 6 in Christ Chapel. The Gustavus Percussion Ensembles open Sunday's schedule at 1:30 in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall and the men's and women's choruses, St. Ansgar's and Birgitta finish the weekend at 7:00 p.m. Sunday in Christ Chapel. All three events are open to the public.
