Gustavus Symphony Orchestra to Perform Sunday

The Gustavus Symphony Orchestra and conductor Warren Friesen will present its annual spring concert Sunday, March 18, beginning at 1:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus. Featured on this concert are solo performances by Violist Katie Mason and Trombonist Sarah Demke.

Pianist Esther Wang to Present J. Mark Scearce’s "The 99 Beautiful Names of God"

Gustavus pianist Esther Wang will present a faculty piano recital Sunday, March 11, featuring the 2004 composition by J. Mark Scearce titled The 99 Beautiful Names of God. Wang's recital will be performed in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus in St. Peter beginning at 3:30 p.m. The performance is free and open to the public.

Gustavus Celebrates Black History Month with New Play by David Barr III

Gustavus Adolphus College and the Gustavus Artist Series commemorate Black History Month with the performance of a new play, Jackie, Vi and Lena, by playwright David Barr on Saturday, February 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall. Jackie, Vi and Lena celebrates the lives of three early veterans of the American Civil Rights Movement. Tickets are available by calling 507-933-7590 or at the door.

Weekend Recitals Close Fall Performance Season at Gustavus

A busy schedule of recitals and concerts completes the Department of Music's fall semester at Gustavus Adolphus College. Beginning at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 9, performances will be presented in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall and Christ Chapel throughout the weekend. These solo recitals and ensemble performances are free and open to the public.

Michael Johnson Continues 35 Year Tradition at Gustavus

Michael Johnson, the singer, song-writer, storyteller, and guitarist who has performed to sold-out audiences at Gustavus Adolphus College annually for over thirty-five years, returns to Björling Recital Hall once again. The holiday season tradition continues on Friday, December 8 at 8:00 p.m. and is one of only two performances Michael will present in Minnesota this season.

Mankato Area Man Featured in Student Recitals at Gustavus This Sunday

Two student recitals are scheduled for Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus Sunday, November 12. North Mankato's Luke Royer, a 2003 Mankato West graduate, will present his senior voice recital at 1:30 p.m. Later, at 7:30 p.m., Joel Beachey and Mark LaVoie join efforts for a junior piano recital. Both recitals are free and open to the public with receptions following the performances.

Woodwind Ensembles to Perform Sunday at Gustavus

Two Gustavus woodwind ensembles, the Gustavus Flute Choir and the Gustavus Woodwind Choir, will present their combined fall concert Sunday, November 12, beginning at 3:30 p.m. in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall on the Gustavus campus. This concert, conducted by professor of music Ann Pesavento, if free and open to the public.

Gustavus Jazz Concert Saturday Night

The Gustavus Jazz Ensembles will present their combined fall concert on Saturday, November 11, beginning at 7:30 p.m. This performance in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall, directed by Steve Wright, will include performances by the Adolphus Jazz Ensemble and the Gustavus Jazz Lab Band performing a variety of works from Sammy Nestico, Frank Mantooth, Thelonius Monk, Thad Jones and others. The concert is free and open to the public.

Classical String and Piano Trio to Present Recital at Gustavus

The trio of Nina Tso-Ning Fan, violin, David Carter, 'cello and Esther Wang, piano, will present a recital of the music of Beethoven, Faure and Tchaikovsky in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus, Sunday, October 29, beginning at 1:30 p.m. This performance is free and open to the public.

Music of Japan Comes To Gustavus

The Music of Japan: The Past into The Future, a concert of traditional and modern music from Japan, will be presented by vocalist Mika Kimula, bamboo flutist David Wheeler and pianist Yumiko Oshima-Ryan in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall on Friday, October 13, beginning at 7:30 p.m. This performance is part of a guest artist residency by Kimula and Wheeler and is sponsored by the Gustavus Artist Series, the Diversity Center, the Dean of the Faculty and the Office of International Education.
