Flying Foot Forum to Perform at Gustavus Posted on January 10th, 2005 by

As part of the 2005 Gustavus Artist Series, the Flying Foot Forum, an internationally renowned Minneapolis-based percussive dance company under the artistic direction of Joe Chvala, will present the dance concert “Flying Feats” at Anderson Theatre on the Gustavus campus, January 14 & 15 at 8:00 p.m. The show includes several new pieces set by choreographer Chvala. A two-week residency in the Department of Theatre and Dance allows Mr. Chvala to set students in the dance department at Gustavus into some of the dances as well as members of the company.

The Flying Foot Forum has established a reputation of programming a wide variety of dance styles in their concert performances. These styles range from flamenco to modern, ballet to tap, clogging, hula and other traditional dances. Chvala”s special touch is to combine these various styles into dances which tell stories, create characters and explore ideas.

This weekend’s concert includes a new collaborative effort between composer Peter O”Gorman, Joe Chvala and Rick Ausland, the artistic director and performer of the group Ten Foot Five. The work juxtaposes sounds of metal on wood with wood on a variety of metal instruments set specially for this piece.

Tickets are available at the Gustavus Ticket Center or by calling 507-933-7590. Tickets remaining at showtime will be on sale at the box office in Anderson Theatre.
