Gustavus Dumke and Michelson to Present Student Voice Recital Posted on November 1st, 2005 by

Gustavus Adolphus College vocalists Kirsten Dumke and Travis Michelson will present a student recital in Jussi Björling Recital Hall, Saturday, November 5, on the Gustavus campus in St. Peter, Minnesota. The two singers, accompanied by pianists Kate Ellingsen, Nathan Kahl and Philip Williams, along with ‘cellist Anna Blunk, harpsichordist Sam Eckberg and a small vocal ensemble, will begin this recital at 3:30 p.m.

Soprano Kirsten Dumke is a senior Spanish education major from Winona with minors in dance and Latin American, Latino and Caribbean studies. She is the daughter of Rev. Mark and Nancy Dumke of Winona and a 2002 graduate of Winona High School. She opens the recital in duet with Mr. Michelson to perform Henry Purcell’s Sound the Trumpet and continutes with solo works by Donizetti, Obradors, Schubert, Hahn and Amy Beach. She currently studies privately with Michael Jorgensen and Rebecca McConnaughey of the Gustavus Department of Music.

Travis Michelson, tenor, opens his section of the program with works by Haydn, Martini, Durante, along with a set of solo works by Benjamin Britten including The Miller of Dee, The Last Rose of Summer and the Foggy, Foggy Dew, accompanied by Kate Ellingsen. Michelson is a junior music education major from Willmar and the son of Brad and Sue Michelson and a 2003 Willmar High graduate. He studies voice with Michael Jorgensen.

For the final set of the recital, Dumke and Michelson will present the duets She Loves Me, from the musical with the same title and What Is This Feeling and For Good from the musical Wicked with the assistance of an ensemble of Gustavus voice students.

Following the recital, a reception will be held in honor of the musicians in the recital hall lobby.
