Gustavus Jazz Lab Band at Nobel Conference

The Gustavus Jazz Ensembles will present their combined fall concert on Saturday, November 11, beginning at 7:30 p.m. This performance in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall, directed by Steve Wright, will include performances by the Adolphus Jazz Ensemble and the Gustavus Jazz Lab Band performing a variety of works from Sammy Nestico, Frank Mantooth, Thelonius Monk, Thad Jones and others. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Adolphus Jazz Ensemble will open the concert with Jeff Jarvis’ Flashpoint, followed by Watch What Happens by Michael Legrand. They will continue with The Duke, My Foolish Heart and Molly Meander before concluding the performance with Lennie Niehaus’ Flashback.

In the second half of the program, the Gustavus Jazz Lab Band will take the stage and open with John LaBarbera’s For Them All. The program continues with works by Sammy Nestico (Hava Nice Day), Tadd Dameron, Alan Baylock Thelonius Monk (Straight, No Chaser), Thad Jones’ Us and Rain, a composition by Director Steve Wright. In addition to these works, the Gustavus Jazz Quartet will perform a number of pieces.

Saturday’s concert is free and open to the public. It begins at 7:30 p.m. in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall.
