Engebretson to Present Faculty Saxophone Recital

The performance is free and open to the public

Faculty member John Engebretson will present a saxophone recital in Jussi Björling Recital Hall on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus, Friday, November 2, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Assisting in this recital are pianist Esther Wang, guitarist Jim McGuire, bassist Rick Orpen and Andrew Haaheim on drums. The performance is free and open to the public.

John Engebretson, adjunct faculty in saxophone and a graduate of Gustavus, is presenting a program demonstrating the versatility of the saxophone and the variety of works written or transcribed for the instrument. He opens with Jacques Ibert’s Concertina da camera and Handel’s Sonate No. 6 accompanied by pianist Esther Wang, followed by a solo work, Steady Study on the Boogie, by Christian Lauba. After intermission, he returns with Esther Wang for two works by Libby Larsen and Robert Schumann before joining with the jazz trio of McGuire, Orpen and Haaheim to present Kenny Dorham’s Blue Bossa and Sonny Rollins’ Oleo.

Engebretson’s recital begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
