Erik Mahon to Present Trumpet Recital Saturday Posted on March 3rd, 2008 by

Colorado native and junior at Gustavus Adolphus College, Erik Mahon, will present his junior trumpet recital in Bjorling Recital Hall beginning at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 8. Mr. Mahon will be accompanied by St. Peter pianist Beth Winterfeldt and joined by the members of the Christ Chapel Brass for this performance.

Erik Mahon opens his junior recital with a work by Giuseppe Torelli for piccolo trumpet, Sonata in D and a work for E-flat cornet, Concerto for Trumpet, by Franz Joseph Haydn, accompanied by Beth Winterfeldt. He continues with the Parable XIV for Solo Trumpet, Op. 127 by Vincent Persichetti. To conclude the recital, Mahon and the members of the Christ Chapel Brass will perform Bach’s Little Fugue in G minor and Erskine Hawkins’ jazz standard Tuxedo Junction.

Mahon is a junior music major with a minor in political science from Littleton, Colorado. He is a 2005 graduate of Chatfield High School and the son of Karen Sjobeck and Casey Mahon of Littleton. He is a member of the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra and just recently returned from a two week concert tour in China with the symphony under the direction of Conductor Warren Friesen. Erik is also a member of the Gustavus Wind Orchestra, the Gustavus Jazz Lab Band and the Christ Chapel Brass.
