Pianist and Gustavus Adolphus College faculty member Esther Wang will present a recital Saturday, November 8, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall on the Gustavus campus. For this performance, she will be joined by violinist Ariana Kim and ‘cellist David Carter. The recital is free and open to the public.
Wang’s recital program will open and close with works by 19th century composer Felix Mendelssohn; Variations Serieuses, Op. 54 and the Piano Trio in C minor, Op. 66. For the trio, she will be joined by Minneapolis violinist Ariana Kim and ‘cellist David Carter. The central section of the recital is a set of three works by Chinese composers. The set begins with Ji-Dong-Nuo, a 2007 composition by Chen Yi. It is followed by Tan Dun’s Eight Memories in Watercolor. The final work of the set is Bright Sheng’s My Song.
Esther Wang is assistant professor of music at Gustavus. Her recital Saturday is free and open to the public. A reception for the musicians will follow the recital.
