The Gustavus Department of Music presents three student recitals this weekend on the Gustavus campus. Senior Cara Evanson opens the weekend April 18 with a senior viola recital at 3:30 p.m. in the Arboretum’s Interpretive Center. Junior pianists Ashley Tibbetts and Azra Halilovic join forces at 1:30 p.m. on April 19, followed by senior pianist and percussionist Nicole Parris at 3:30 p.m. in Bjorling Recital Hall.
Cara Evanson is a senior from Madision, Wisconsin and studies viola with Warren Friesen. She opens her Saturday recital in the Interpretive Center with a solo work, Suite No. 2, by J. S. Bach. She will be joined by the members of the Foreign Accord Quartet to perform Mozart’s Quartet K. No. 157. Her final work includes three movements from Bach’s Brandenberg Concerto No. 6. She will be assisted by Warren Friesen, Alyssa Gilgenbach, Claire Melendez, Laura Regal and Caitlin Petersen.
Azra Halilovic and Ashley Tibbetts share Sunday’s stage at 1:30 p.m. to perform solo works for piano by Bach, Chopin, Mozart and Debussy. Halilovic is a junior from Minnetonka and studies piano with Esther Wang. Ashley Tibbett is a 2010 Mankato West graduate and studies piano at Gustavus with Yumiko Oshima-Ryan.
Senior Nicole Parris, a pianist and percussionist, will be presenting a recital which combines work on the piano, marimba, snare and timpani at 3:30 p.m. The program include Ney Rosauro’s Brazilian Children’s Songs, Moses Howden’s Goliath, Tchaikovsky’s Reverie and works by Handel, Tanner and Tchaikovsky arranged for marimba.
All three recitals will be followed by a reception and are free and open to the public.
