Vocal and Instrumental Combine for Concert Sunday at Gustavus Posted on April 13th, 2009 by

The Gustavus Chamber Singers, Gregory Aune, director and the Adolphus Jazz Ensemble, Steve Wright, director, combine efforts Sunday, April 19, for a joint concert in Bjorling Recital Hall on the Gustavus campus. The performance begins in Bjorling Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Aune’s Chamber Singers will open the concert with Dave Brubeck’s Take Five, Smile by Charlie Chaplin and Like Someone in Love, arranged by April Arabian-Tini. Their program includes works by Lennon/McCartney, Hortn/Darling/Gabler and Burke/Van Heusen.

The Adolphus Jazz Ensemble and director Steve Wright will open with Bellavino Blues by Matt Harris, Bernies’ Tune by Bernie Miller and Sammy Nestico’s Celebracion. The program includes a work by Steve Wright titled Little Bird, Daahoud by Clifford Brown and Magilla’s Revenge, again by Steve Wright.

The Chamber Singers return to the stage to join the jazz ensemble to present Doctor Jazz by the team of Melrose and Oliver and conclude the performance with a Kirby Shaw arrangement of Choo Choo Ch’Boogie.

Sunday’s vocal and instrumental jazz performance is free and open to the public.
