Sunday, October 17, brings Soprano Christina Smith to the Jussi Björling stage for a performance of “Songs From a Woman’s Life,” a collection of music she has performed which gives a glimpse into the life and mind of different women. With Pianist Bonnie Jorgensen, Smith presents her “Songs” at 1:30 p.m. in Björling Recital Hall on the Gustavus campus. Admission is free and the public is cordially invited to attend.

As Smith describes her recital, “It has been a few years since I had performed a recital and I was concerned about having to prepare so much new material in the midst of a busy schedule. Then I thought of all the songs I knew already: the ones I’d learned, but never performed, the ones I had performed, but wanted to sing again…All of them songs I enjoy singing. I started to list them and a theme emerged. Each song was a glimpse into the life and mind of a different woman.”

Her recital opens with a set of Stephen Sondheim works from Sweeney Todd, Saturday Night and Merrily We Roll Along. She continues with selections Aida, The Music Man, Whoop Dee Doo, The King and I and others.
