Pianists Helen & Paul Baumgartner

Helen and Paul Baumgartner, faculty emeriti of the Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College, will present a four-hand piano recital Sunday, March 6, beginning at 3:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall on the Gustavus campus. The recital includes works by Brahms, Warlock and Schubert. It is free and open to the public.

Sunday’s faculty recital opens with Johannes Brahms’ Variations on a Theme by Robert Schumann. The work includes 10 variations on a theme composed by Robert Schumann which is considered one of his last creative inspirations. The performance continues with the Capriol Suite by Peter Warlock, a 6-movement neo-classical work.

Following intermission, Helen and Paul Baumgartner return to the stage to perform the Grand Duo, Op. posthumous 140 – D. 812 by Franz Schubert, a 4-movement composition that is symphonic both in length and design.

Sunday’s four-hand piano recital by long-time members of the Department of Music at Gustavus, Helen and Paul Baumgartner, is free and open to the public. A reception for the recitalists will be served in the recital hall lobby following the performance.
