Gustavus Music Showcase, 2012

Gustavus Adolphus College and the Department of Music will feature its four premier touring ensembles at this signature event on Sunday, March 25 at the Ted Mann Concert Hall on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis. The Gustavus Music Showcase will allow audience members to see the Gustavus Choir, the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra, the Gustavus Wind Orchestra, and the Gustavus Jazz Lab Band in one performance beginning at 2 p.m.

Along with one or two other selections, each ensemble will perform a work commissioned for this event. The Gustavus Choir has commissioned Vox Arumque by American composer Eric Whitacre and the Gustavus Wind Orchestra Intrepid Promise by James Stephenson (its second commission by the American composer). The Gustavus Symphony Orchestra will continue with Faith and Perseverance by Chinese composer Chen Yi and the Gustavus Jazz Lab Band will complete the commission series with Outside, Looking In by American jazz composer Alan Baylock.

The Gustavus Music Showcase, part of this year of Sesquicentennial celebrations, is a unique opportunity for College musicians to perform on one stage in a major event for its Twin Cities and extended audiences. Previous Gustavus Music Showcases were presented at Orchestra Hall and St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Eden Prairie, in 2005, 2006, and 2008.

Tickets for the March 25 Music Showcase are $17.50 for adults and $10 for students and are available online at gustavustickets.com or by calling the Gustavus Office of Marketing and Communication at 507-933-7520.
