Dynamic Brass Duo to Perform in Bjorling Posted on May 8th, 2014 by

Senior instrumental music education major Matt Bauer and junior physics major Will Doebler will present their joint student recital on Sunday May, 11 at 5:30 p.m. in Bjorling Recital Hall. Their recital is free and open to the public and flowers will be given to all mothers who attend this concert on Mother’s Day.

Will Doebler, horn and Matt Bauer, tuba, will alternate performances throughout the recital. To open, Ben Marti will accompany as Will performs “Adagio and Allegro, Op. 70” by Robert Schumann. Then Matt will present his first work of the evening, “Introduction and Allegro Spiritoso” by J.B. Senaillè and arranged by Philip Catelinet. He will be accompanied by pianist Bonnie Jorgensen. The second and third movements from “Sonata for Horn and Piano” by Paul Hindemith will be Will’s second piece. Matt will take the stage for the second movement of Arthur Frackenpohl’s “Concertino for Tuba and String Orchestra” with Bonnie accompanying him. After that Will will be accompanied by Esther Wang for the second movement of “Concerto for Horn and Orchestra in B-flat major, Op. 91” by Reinhold Glière. Bonnie and Matt will return to the stage for Allen Ostrander’s arrangement of A. Lebedev’s “Concerto in One Movement”. Laura Johnson’s arrangement of Leonard Bernstein’s “America” from West Side Story will be performed by Will and assisted by Laura Johnson on clarinet. Finally, Matt will end the concert with the assistance of Nick Mason and Dan Leifermann on trumpet and Chris Allen on trombone. Together, they will perform the Luther Henderson arrangement of “Tuba Tiger Rag” by Harry DeCosta.

Matt Bauer and Will Doebler will present their joint recital in Bjorling Recital Hall on Sunday, May 11 at 5:30 p.m. This performance will be free for the public to attend and all mothers in attendance will receive a free flower for Mother’s Day.
