Weekend Arts Preview: Family Weekend Posted on October 3rd, 2019 by

As families arrive on campus for 2019 Family Weekend, the Family Weekend performances offer a unique chance to hear many of Gustavus Adolphus College’s large music ensembles. Between the Family Weekend Chapel Service on Sunday morning and the Family Weekend Showcase Concert that afternoon, be sure to check out these ensembles.

Family Weekend Chapel Service

Sunday, October 6
Christ Chapel

Gustavus welcomes families of all faith backgrounds to this festive worship service centered on the gift of God’s grace, led by Gustavus students, faculty, and staff. The service will feature music by the Adolphus Jazz Ensemble, Choir of Christ Chapel, Christ Chapel Brass, Gustavus Wind Symphony, and Lucia Singers.

Family Weekend Concert

Christ Chapel

The 2019 Family Weekend Concert features performances from the Gustavus Choir, Gustavus Symphony Orchestra, Gustavus Wind Orchestra, and Gustavus Jazz Ensemble. The Gustavus Choir will be performing pieces including “I Am the Rose of Sharon” by Ivo Antognini and “I Need Thee Every Hour,” arranged by Sam Robson. The Wind Orchestra is performing Jayce Ogren’s “Symphonies of Gaia.” The Symphony Orchestra is playing a variety of pieces by Tchaikovsky, including “Polonaise” from Eugene Onegin. The Jazz Ensemble is playing the classic “What A Wonderful World,” arranged by Alan Baylock, as well as Duke Ellington’s “Do Nothing Til You Hear From Me,” arranged by Dave Wolpe.
