Fine Arts Week Preview: February 21 – February 27 Posted on February 21st, 2022 by

This week features the continuation of the Hillstrom Museum exhibit: Fevzi Yazici: DARK WHITE, a Piano Faculty Recital showcasing Esther Wang, a fine art student workshop: The Arts Administration Salons Series, and the last days of the Traveling McKnight Artists Exhibition.

Hillstrom Museum- Fevzi Yazici: DARK WHITE
Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Fevzi Yazici: DARK WHITE features 45 drawings by imprisoned Turkish journalist and artist Fevzi Yazici (b. 1972).  The artist served as the design director of Istanbul’s Zaman newspaper until 2016 when the Turkish government closed down the paper and Yazici and colleagues were imprisoned as part of that crackdown on freedom of the press following a coup attempt against the government party.  Yazici was originally sentenced to life in prison on terrorism charges but in 2019 the Turkish Supreme Court reduced his sentence to 11 years and 3 months. Exhibit closes on April 24, 2022.

The Arts Administration Salons Series are open to every fine arts major and minor. These
salons are designed to give you a chance to meet the faculty, network with your peers, experience visual and performing arts expos, and learn more about all of the different facets of the arts administration and cultural leadership workscape.

Esther Wang; Piano Faculty Recital

Esther Wang, pianist, is an active soloist and collaborator throughout the United States and has appeared on numerous concert series, including the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts in Chicago and the A. Mozart Fest Series in Austin, TX. Wang is an enthusiastic teacher and adjudicator; teaching over 15 courses at Gustavus Adolphus College. The Department of Music is proud to present Esther Wang in concert.

Traveling McKnight Artists Exhibition
Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Schaefer Fine Arts Center (Studio Arts Building)

A traveling exhibition of artworks by recipients of the McKnight Fellowship for Ceramics from the year 2020. Featuring work by two 2020 McKnight Artist Fellows and three 2019 McKnight Artists in residence at the Northern Clay Center, Minneapolis MN.
