Senior Spotlight: Geneva VanWik Posted on May 25th, 2022 by

Geneva VanWyk is a Studio Art and Philosophy double major with a minor in Geography from Harrisonburg, Virginia. After graduation, they plan to attend graduate school and start beekeeping. Professor Nicolas Darcourt describes Geneva as such, “Geneva has a drive for new ideas and new approaches which is wonderful to attempt to teach to. I am excited for Geneva’s next steps as a graduate student in the visual arts.”

We asked Geneva about their time at Gustavus and their plans for the future. 

What will you miss most about art at Gustavus?
GW: “The professors!”

What’s a favorite memory you have from studying art at Gustavus?
GW: “Prompting a school-wide JoNes’ email”

What do you look forward to most about life after Gustavus?
GW: “fruitlessly chasing the american dream on an artist’s budget”

What is the most interesting class you’ve taken at Gustavus and why?
GW: “Cickbait, Bias, & Propaganda: it prepared me for our Blackmirror age.”
