The Gustavus Wind Orchestra returns from Spain and France Posted on February 15th, 2023 by

The Gustavus Wind Orchestra is performing their home concert on Saturday, February 18 at 7:00 p.m.. The ensemble had a two-week long tour in Spain and France, and students are excited to share their excitement after a successful tour.

“Ending the tour with a home concert is really special to me”, said student Chasey Wedge ‘24. “We have just come off of this amazing experience abroad sharing our music with so many new people and that was undoubtedly be incredible, but there is something different about coming home and playing this music that we’ve worked so hard on with the people closest to us who have supported us throughout our lives and musical journeys.”

Alex Terpkosh ‘23, a senior percussion and conductor, performed one of his solo pieces in Spain and France.

“I absolutely love home concerts. I think it feels like one of the most special concerts because there is nothing but support from the audience and we get to share the music we love with those that support us too.”

Everyone who has been a part of this orchestra can both testify for how much work they have put in, and how much it has paid off.

“Preparing for a tour is a 24/7 job” said Terpkosh. “It can be so exhausting, but every day is also so exciting too. Many of us experience just as much joy in rehearsal as we do on tour. What is so special about GWO is how as long as we’re together it is already a special experience. In addition, many of us believe GWO is equally about the community as it is the music we make.”

This community comes through in the music that they perform, with Wedge and Terpkosh emphasizing the feeling of family that they have found.

The home concert “Toward the Horizons”, will be held on Saturday, February 18, at 7 p.m. in Christ Chapel, and there is no admission fee.
