Legendary Swedish jazz pianist and composer Nils Lindberg joins with Philip Brunelle’s VocalEssence and the Gustavus Faculty Jazz Combo, to present a concert of holiday and jazz favorites on Tuesday, December 7, beginning at 8:00 p.m. in Björling Recital Hall.

Perhaps Sweden’s greatest jazz musician, Lindberg brings his own jazz-infused style to the piano and blends traditional carol melodies into the works he will perform during the concert. Of Lindberg’s work and a career that spans four decades, AllAboutJazz.com writes “his music is an iridescent medley that invigorates, inspires and swings in equal measure.”

At the invitation of the of the Gustavus Artist Series and VocalEssence, Nils Lindberg returns to the Gustavus campus after an absence of more than twenty years. This appearance is part of a short holiday visit to the States by the composer and includes performances in Minneapolis and Saint Peter.

The Ensemble Singers will open the performance with a variety of holiday favorites. They will then perform a number of Lindberg’s works with the composer at the piano. As the Singers leave the stage, the Gustavus Faculty Jazz Combo will join Lindberg to present the second half of the program. With the combo, Nils will perform a jazz standards as well as his own compositions and arrangements.

The public is warmly invited to hear this marvelous composer and pianist perform with Philip Brunelle’s VocalEssence and the Gustavus Faculty Jazz Combo.
